Funeral service for Barbara Carolyn Raines, age 74, of Decatur, will be today, July 24, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Todd Evans officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Raines was born April 9, 1938, in Castleberry, AL to John Arthur McDonald and Ernestine Whitehead McDonald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Raines.
She was called home this past Sunday. The home we are referring to is her Heavenly Home. There is no doubt she has already been re-united with many of her loved ones who have gone before her.
Some people knew her as Barbara, most as Carolyn, but for the family--we all knew her as simply Maw Maw or Mother. Maw Maw loved her family more than anything on this earth. She valued the time she had with each family member. Oh, how she would perk up when one of them gave her a call. It could be said that her passion or love in this life was to watch over her family and take care of them. She performed this to the highest degree. Even during her sickest and most trying times, her thoughts were always on someone else. She constantly wanted to know how others were doing. She had a heart for giving.
Maw Maw will be missed so much by those who knew her. But the memories, lessons, and love she left us with will be passed on through many generations. The Lord now has another angel in Heaven and we are short one here on earth.
Maw Maw--Mother-- "Thanks for showing us what true love is. You will be missed terribly, but never forgotten. We love you so much and will one day be re-united with you and Dad in Heaven."
Isaiah 57:2 "Those who walk uprightly enter into peace, they find rest as they lie in death."
May you now rest in our Lord and Savior's arms.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Raines (Carla) and Dewayne Raines (Pam), both of Decatur; one daughter, Teresa Scogin (Tommy) of Decatur; three sisters, Norma Jean Sessions (Ray Mack) of Mobile, Shirley May of Decatur, and Jeanette Stewart of Brewton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Scogin, Todd Raines, Brent Raines, Vaughn May, Jr., Jackson Stricklin, and A. J. Daugherty. Honorary pallbearers will be Zack Bennett and Allen Gladwell.
Memorial donations may be made to AlaCare Hospice.
