James Melton Perry

April 1, 1920 - September 27, 2017

Funeral service for James Melton Perry, age 97, of Decatur, will be Saturday, September 30, 2017,  11:00 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jackie Kay officiating.  The family will receive friends on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.    Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mr. Perry, who died Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at his residence, was born  April 1, 1920, in Winston County, AL, to Tona Perry and Sarah England Perry.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Lee Perry, daughter, Joyce Marie James, five brothers, and two sisters.  Mr. Perry was a devout Christian and long time member of Central Park Baptist Church.  He was a loving father who was devoted to his family and his church, and will be remembered for his gentle nature and kindness. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Putnam Wells of Decatur; son-in-law, Wayne James of Decatur; four grandsons, Chris Putnam (Angela) of Decatur, Jason Putnam of Decatur; Mike James of Houston, TX, and Tony James (Becki) of Decatur; nine great-grandchildren, Ashley Putnam Smith (Roger) of Hartselle, Madison Putnam of Decatur, Alyssa Putnam of Hartselle, Michael James, II of Houston, TX, Noah James of Athens, Hunter James of Decatur, Logan James of Decatur, Baylee Followay of Decatur, and Mary-Katherine Followay of Decatur; and one great-great-granddaughter, Hattie Rae Smith of Hartselle. Pallbearers will be family.
