Lois Jean Kuhn House

Lois Jean Kuhn House, 94, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, February 10, 2024 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 7, 1930 to Frank Basil Kuhn and Pearl Means Kuhn in McAllen, Texas. Mrs. House graduated from McAllen High School in 1947, where she was actively involved in the band, drama, cheerleading, and the student government association. Soon after graduation, she married William R. House, her high school sweetheart and love of her life. She enjoyed being a homemaker and mother. In 1958, Mrs. House moved with her family from South Texas to Birmingham, Alabama. Later the family moved to the Decatur area where Mr. House became president and CEO of First State Bank. Mrs. House was a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur for over fifty years. She sang in the choir, served on the prayer ministry team, and was a consistent supporter of missions. In addition to faithfully serving in her church, she was a long-time member of Trowelers Garden Club and was very active in Community Bible Study. She also loved painting and playing the flute and piano. She is survived by her five children, William C. House of Huntsville, Kenneth A. House (Rebecca) of Decatur, James F. House (Kay) of Birmingham, Thomas J. House (Deborah) of Decatur, and Elizabeth J. Orr (Edward) of Huntsville. She leaves behind nine grandchildren, William L. House (Haille) of Raleigh, N.C., Lucy White (John David) of Tallahassee, Fla., Jennifer Owen (Jonathan) of Huntsville, Claudia Hinton (Jeremy) of Birmingham, David A. House of Kwajalein Island, Anna Svarney of Birmingham, Thomas J. House, Jr. (Caitlin) of Birmingham, Marilyn Karpeles (Leo) of Birmingham, and Virginia Hathcock (Myles) of Madison along with sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a nephew, Frank W. Wiesehan (Jane) of San Antonio, Texas, and two nieces, Kennette Ries (Jerry) of Gilbert, Ariz. and Laura Wiesehan Klinck of Plano, Texas. Mrs. House was preceded in death by her husband, William R. House, her parents, two great- grandchildren, Layla and David House, and her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Kenneth Wiesehan. Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 14 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Decatur with Rev. Jack Lovelace officiating, and Shelton Funeral Home directing. Graveside service will immediately follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Decatur missions.
