Susan Ruth ""Suzi"" Askew

Memorial service for Susan Ruth "Suzi" (Daily) Askew, age 71, of Decatur, will be Saturday, July 18, 2015, 2:00 p.m., at Parkview Baptist Church, Decatur, AL, with Rev. Dr. Todd Evans and Rev. Wayne Penn officiating. Mrs. Askew, who died July 11, 2015, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, following an extended illness, was born December 24, 1943, in New Britain, CT, to William Booth Dailey and Audrey Mont Dailey. She was preceded in death by her parents. At age 60, she received her Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies from Athens State University. She taught pre-K at Frances Nungester School in Decatur, AL after graduation, then moved on to be house parents at the Lexi House in Somerville, AL. Her love for children took them to The Boys Ranch in Danville, AL. They moved to Auburn, AL, and volunteered with the Miracle League and the Red Cross. She traveled with the church to work with children in Honduras at Orphanage Emmanuel. She was very active with her church by teaching Sunday School, children's church, RA's, GA's, Acteens, and volunteered in the church library. Early on, she was active with the Cub Scouts. She enjoyed Bible studies and women's ministries. Suzi always had a welcoming smile and loved all people with whom she came in contact. She always had an encouraging word and a chocolate chip cookie if needed; children were a very important part of her life. She is survived by her spouse of 52 years, Harold Gene Askew of Decatur; one son, Bryan William Askew & wife, Jennifer, of Decatur; two daughters, Vicki Askew Walker & husband, Pete, of Decatur, and Amy Askew Sanderson & husband, Scooter, of Columbus, GA; two brothers, Tommy Dailey of Moulton, AL, and Philip Dailey of High Point, NC; four sisters, Janet McDonald, Margaret Cooper, and Edythe Cooke, all of Greensboro, NC, and Ricki Adams of Charleston SC; six grandchildren, Samantha Speakman & husband, Daniel, of Decatur, Kerri Beck & husband, Danny, of Danville, Brittany Willis & husband, Kyle, of Huntsville, Kristin Askew of Birmingham, and Aaron Sanderson and Patrick Sanderson of Columbus, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Smith & husband, Roger, of Hartselle, Jeff Brink of Tuscaloosa, Savannah Speakman of Decatur, Shelby Beck, Emmie Beck, and Walker Beck of Danville, and Hudson Willis of Huntsville; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends whom she cherished. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Parkview Baptist Church of Decatur, AL -- Building Fund, Library, or Homebound Ministry.
