Mr. Harry Ashley Carver, Sr., age 81, of Decatur, AL (formerly Bridgeboro, GA), died Thursday, October 17, 2019, at River City Center in Decatur, AL. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home, Albany, GA, with Rev. Bill McCamon officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service at the funeral home. A private committal service with military honors will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Shelton Funeral Home assisted the family with Decatur, AL local arrangements.
Mr. Carver was born April 9, 1938, in the New Elm Community of Colquitt, GA to Hubert Ashley Carver and Callie Drucilla Davis Carver. He graduated from Moultrie High School in 1956, and joined the United States Air Force. After serving his country, Mr. Carver settled into life as a farmer, and was later employed with Merc Chemical Company. He started his own welding business and built agricultural equipment. Mr. Carver's talents also led him to design, build, own, and manage the Barren's Golf Course. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Harry Ashley Carver, Jr.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Carver Bishop (Richard) of Decatur, AL, and Jacquelyn Carver Hilton of Doerun, GA; seven grandchildren, Christopher Bishop (Melanie) of Columbus, MS, Kristen Bergeson (Luke) of Huntsville, AL, Jonathan Bishop (Ashli) of Madison, AL, Michael Hurst (Kelly) of Slocumb, AL, Jessica Whitehead (Kyle) of Dothan, AL, Jacob Hilton of Alamogordo, NM, and Kyle Hilton of Doerun, GA; and seven great-grandchildren.
